Amplified in 2019

Now that everyone is starting to wake up from their New Years induced coma, I would like to take some time to reflect on what we have accomplished in the past 365 days. Through 2018 we added two incredible players to our team; Tal Rogers and Griffin Tomlin. We were also able to release three new models; the Banger, Woofa, and Juke. The Banger is our first plastic offering and we at the team were very excited to include it in the lineup. The next two models, the Woofa and Juke, hold a special place in my heart as they are both designed by me and I am highly thankful to LaMonte for giving me the opportunity to design and prototype these throws under the Amplified brand. The Woofa and the Juke are incredible playing throws, but they both experienced significant setbacks during production last year. Ever since Lamonte created Amplified back in 2015, the company was built on providing incredible and unique colorways on its throws. However, this focus on anodization seemed like more of a setback than strength in 2018, as we had multiple anodizing flaws on the Woofa and Juke. We have since parted ways with our old anodizer and are excited to see what new talent we can work with for our 2019 releases.

This year, we plan to generate momentum by improving our consistency. We have many projects underway, some new and some carried over from last year (*cough *cough Vinyl), and we have a clear picture of what our 2019 lineup will consist of. We are also looking into some new anodizers to continue Amplified’s tradition of excellent anodization. In the meantime, we will be using our machinist's anodizing talents on our early 2019 releases. We are also looking to build up our apparel lineup as it seems like many of you enjoyed the pieces we released last year. Personally, making logos and graphics for Amplified is a fun side project, and I am eager for what new ideas we can cook up and offer to you all.

Ever since I started yoyoing, I knew I wanted to make an impact on this community, and for my first few years of my yoyoing, I thought I would be making such an impact by competing. However, with school taking up more and more of my schedule I no longer have as much time to prepare and go to contests as I would like; I still believe that I can hold my own, but I'm not expecting to sweep the 2019 contest circuit anytime soon. With 2019, my priorities are starting to shift towards helping Amplified grow and improve, whether that is by designing return tops or making some slick logos to implement in our growing apparel lineup. I believe I still have yet to leave my mark on the yoyoing community, and I see 2019 as the perfect opportunity to do so.

To everyone reading this, I would like to say thank you for sticking with us. Whether you have bought a throw from us, tried one of our throws at a club meet, met one of our team members at a contest, or even if this is the first thing you have seen anything from us, thank you for your support and know that we here at Amplified are working hard to give you guys the best throws and we can’t wait to be heard in 2019. On behalf of Team Amplified, I would like to wish you all a happy new year, and may your binds be tight and your tricks even tighter.

Best wishes,

Darren Tan
